After a nice cool sleep in Kalgoorlie it was up for breakie, where we cheated and used the toaster in the camp kitchen (camping toaster's are just not quite the same!). Only toast on the menu as because I used all the milk for my milo last night, Cj decided that if he couldn't have a milo – I couldn't have a tea! After breakie we finished putting the gear away then it was into Kalgoorlie to see the Super Pit.
And just so you know the Super Pit is pretty super! It was amazing to see the site. It is absolutely HUGE! The massive trucks looked like little ants!! They have a great set-up there too so you can see the whole history of the town – pretty incredible really! They certainly have come a long way and had their fair share of up's and down's. History fact for you – in the late 1800's – early 1900's Kalgoorlie was one of the biggest towns in Australia.
After the Super Pit we headed back into town where we had an i-Generation gaff. After driving around the town trying to find the Coles/Kmart – I gave up and took to Google on the laptop and Cj went to the GPS -after a few minutes I looked up and found we were actually already right out side the massive sign saying “KMART”! We actually didn't need all our technology...sometimes you just need to follow your nose!
We stocked up on some warm trackies then headed out of Kalgoorlie - Norseman bound. Once again – long straight roads with not a whole lot to see – however I must admit that the scenery is actually quite beautiful, the vastness of it all is just spectacular! We took to playing cricket with the traffic (or lack there off) and for any of you who haven't played it before – I can tell you now – it's just as boring as the actual game!!
Just as we came into Balladonia at about 2ish we decided to take a 4WD track off the road and go and camp out bush. Well – to say the least it was interesting. A Nav covered in dust, a bumpy ride, a fence full of undies (see below) 2 beers and a broken antena later, we literally drove about 40k's on a beaten track to turn around and come back to the main road!! Our map (and map reader...not telling you who!) did not really accurately judge the distance to said camp site in the bush!!!
So it was back on the main road and now we were pushing it for time with the sun setting and the thought of the horror stories we had heard about the animals on the road at this time of the night – we came to the longest straightest stretch of road in Australia (no...we haven't been on it yet!) and found a 24hr rest stop.
Setting up camp now is such a breeze! It seriously took us no time at all tonight to get our abode “errected”, dinner cooked, everything packed up and ready for tomorrow and now we are sitting down just about to map out our assault on the Baxter Cliffs for tomorrow's adventure, then it will be Milo and cards and an early night!
So from the side of the longest straightest road in Australia – good night all!
