Day 12 - Tourists of Broken Hill

What a night last night was!!!! Between the birds and the rain I didn't think I'd ever get to sleep!! But we did and amazingly we didn't get wet!! This little Malamoo 3-second tent is certainly proving to be worth every cent!!

Broken Hill is certainly reminding us that we have been living in the Pilbara for 2 years - IT'S FREEZING HERE!!!!!! You'd never know we love the snow!!!!! It's jumpers and trackies, and socks and thongs, and runners and Ceej has even pulled out the work boots to keep his feet warm this afternoon!!!!

Anyway after breakie we headed off to the tourists centre to find out the spots to check out for the day - we had heard that Broken Hill has lots to offer with over 20 art galleries, history galore and much much more....they weren't wrong!!!!

We started off (eventually, after our first minor meltdown - I really need to brush up on my map reading skills!), by heading out to Silverton - an old little Silver mining town. Just before the main town we called into Day Dream Mine - an old under ground silver mine that you can actually take a tour through. It was fantastic!!!!

After the tour and some AWESOME home made scones and the hottest tea known to man - we left Day Dream and continued onto Silverton. Such a cute little old town where we visited the old Gaol/Museum and the Mad Max Museum.

We couldn't leave without having a beer in the famous Silverton Hotel - host to many movies (Mad Max 2) and commercials (XXXX) - such a great pub!!!  Cj participated in a "game" for charity at the pub, we are unable to disclose any information about said game - it's top secret - but be sure to ask about it if you ever find yourself in Silverton Hotel! For your efforts you will get a certificate and a free beer!! (We never said in what glass either!!)

We then made our way back into town, where after the shocking bumpy road we had to duck into the tourist centre again for a quick toilet stop (we nearly didn't make it!!!!)...then it was lunch and some more site seeing.

We headed up to the miners memorial at the top of the hill over looking the town. Here also hosts the site of the "Big Bench" - and yes...it is a very big bench!!!

We then checked out a couple of the galleries in town, which showed off some local artists - which were great (Robin Sellick was my stand out favourite!).

Then we headed to the other side of town to an old fashioned milk-bar! Felt like you were going back it time!!! Very fun! So it was rock'n'roll, milkshakes and sunday's and some trivia for the afternoon before making our way back to camp!

Looks like we are in for more rain tonight, but for now we are chilling with the very noisy Grey Nomad's in the camp kitchen while Cj attempts to watch the footy!!

So a very cold H & Ceej are sending you love and hugs from Broken Hill

(Please send us warm thoughts back!!!!!)

Just in case you were wondering - this is what we look like after almost 2 weeks on the road!!
